Welcome to the Botany and Zoology webpage!
Mrs. Kessler is the sponsor of Arcola's high school cheerleaders. She is
married and lives in Mattoon.
In Botany class we collected leaves and their seeds and quizzed each
other.We have already completed all of the trees, and we did most of the trees on
campus. Now, after completing all of our trees, we have gone into our textbooks and are
learn different things about flowers and plants.
- Zoology class starts after
Christmas. In Zoology we will dissect cats, sharks, frogs, etc. and we will learn about
their muscles and bones. This is an interesting class that if you can handle a little hard
work, you'll enjoy this class.

What are we doing in Botany right
now?
First 9 Weeks:
In Botany class we were collecting leaves around the campus and studying their venation
(how the veins in the leaves are positioned), the leaves' margin (what the side of the
leaf feels like), the arrangement of the leaves (how the leaves grow on the branch), and
if they are considered simple or complex.
Second 9 weeks: We are
now in our textbooks and we are learning the different parts of cells of different plants.
We are also studying gymnosperm/angiosperms, non-vascular/vacular plants, and
woody/non-woody plants.
