Dear Families/Students, (REVISED 8-20-2020)
You have selected to start the school year on a full remote learning plan. Although we are offering a blended plan of in-person and remote learning, we respect each family’s right to make the decision that is best for their family. As a result, we are committed to making the full remote experience the best possible experience for the students. But as a result of the selection to go full remote, we will need the parents/guardians to partner with the school to make this a successful experience for everyone.
We have set this Friday, August 21 at 9:00 am as the last day and time to choose remote learning for the first quarter. If you choose remote learning, you must remain on remote learning through the entire first quarter. At this time, the only way the school will make a change after Friday morning at 9:00 am will be if a student has a documented, medical diagnosis that requires a change to be made. We simply cannot provide a quality program for anyone with students moving back and forth from remote learning to in person attendance.
Pick Up of Equipment
If you have not done so, parents/guardians of students on full remote in Grades K-12 are required to pick up your school issued technology and other instructional resources you will need on Friday, August 21 sometime between 12 am – 4 pm in front of Arcola High School. We will have tables set up and staff will assist you. If you cannot make it during these specific times, please email Jill Hohlbauch at jhohlbauch@arcolaschools.com. Also, if you need support with Internet connectivity or other technology related concerns, contact Mrs. Hohlbauch as well. Please be sure to wear face coverings when you come to pick up the equipment because you will be within 6 feet of the person giving you equipment.
Expectations
Remote learning this fall will not be like remote learning last spring. There are additional responsibilities that need to be met by the students and families. Remote learning will also look different for the preschool students, the students in Grades K-6 and the students in Grades 7-12.
Students that are on remote learning have the same expectations as students that are attending in person. All school handbook rules and expectations will apply to students that are on remote, including disciplinary consequences. Students in K-12 are required to engage daily for five clock hours and are responsible for attendance, homework, completion of activities, etc. You may receive a specific set of expectations from the school but here are a few:
Students in Preschool
- You will receive specific directions from the preschool teachers.
Students in Grades K-3
- All students in Grades K-3 will be required to sign in for daily attendance through an online platform (SeeSaw for students in Grades K-3 and Google Classroom for students in Grades 4-6).
- Students/families of all students in Grades K-3 will need to know how to access and work within SeeSaw. We will be providing daily tech support. More information on this will be coming.
- Classroom teachers will post instructional videos on the online platform in literacy (reading and writing) and in math by 1:15 pm daily. Remote students will be required to access, watch instructional videos, and complete any assigned activities on a daily basis.
- All remote students will also be required to live stream into a math support session for one hour each morning (the times per grade level will be set) and from 1:15 – 2:15 pm each afternoon. These will be to provide follow-up support the lessons from the previous day.
- All remote students will be expected to attend the live support sessions unless they have received prior approval from the building principal. Otherwise, the student will be marked as an unexcused absence.
- Remote students will also be assigned online assignments by their classroom teacher such as eSpark, etc. to complete on a regular basis.
- Remote students will also have remote activities in art, music and physical education that will need to be completed daily.
Students in Grades 4 and 5
- Students/families of all students in Grades 4-5 will need to know how to access and work within Google Classroom
- All remote students at these grade levels will be grouped together and assigned a remote learning grade level teacher. 4th Grade will be Mrs. White and 5th Grade will be Ms. Hamilton.
- The remote teacher will work with the families to create a schedule of online learning sessions through Zoom or Google Meets.
- Students will be expected to also watch instructional videos, complete activities and assignments, and eSpark.
- Students will also have remote activities in art, music and physical education that will need to be completed daily.
Students in Grade 6
- All students in Grades 6 will be using Google Classroom as the online tool for accessing information, sending assignments, etc.
- Remote students are expected to live stream into the morning classes at the regularly scheduled time through either Zoom or Google Meets each day to receive daily instruction from the teacher. The time for these Zoom or Google Meet sessions will be communicated by the teacher.
- Students will be expected to also watch instructional videos, complete activities and assignments, and eSpark.
- Students will also have remote activities in art, music and physical education that will need to be completed daily.
Students in Grades 7-12
- All students in Grades 7-12 will be using Google Classroom as the online tool for accessing information, sending assignments, etc.
- Remote students are expected to either (1) live stream into the morning classes at the regularly scheduled time through Zoom or Google Meets or (2) watch the class instructional video and respond to all required prompts by the end of the class period in order to receive daily instruction from the teacher. The classroom teacher will communicate on Google Classroom whether the classroom instruction will be delivered through live stream or posted video. It is the student’s responsibility to access Google Classroom to know the expectation from hour to hour. Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence. For example, if a student has English 1st hour, they will first check to see if class is live streamed or delivered through video. If it is live streamed, they will be required to attend a live Zoom or Google Meet session in from 8:00 a.m.-9:00 am. If is a posted video lesson, the student is expected to view the video and respond to all required prompts by the 9:00 am.
- You will receive more details on how to access Zoom and/or Google Meets. Students should check their school email for information from their teachers.
- On September 8, ALL students in grades 7-12 will be required to attend two additional classroom lessons in the afternoon. Lessons will be from 1:00 – 1:40 pm and 1:50 – 2:30 pm Monday through Thursday each week. Students will be required to attend the live stream class via Zoom or Google Meet unless they have prior approval from the building principal.
Student Receiving Special Services (special education, response to intervention, English language)
- Students attending school remotely that receive special education services (IEP), response to intervention (RTI) services, and English language services WILL have some required direct remote instruction during the day. Families will be contacted to coordinate time and access.
Breakfast and Lunch
The district will be providing an option for families to have breakfast and lunch picked up and/or delivered each day at 12:30 pm. If the student qualifies for free lunches, the meals will be provided for free. Students that are on reduced or students on full pay will be charged the appropriate amount. I will be sending a follow-up communication regarding breakfast and lunch but I wanted you to know that option would be available.

Estimadas familias/estudiantes:
Han elegido comenzar el año escolar con un plan completo de aprendizaje a distancia. Aunque ofrecemos un plan combinado de aprendizaje en persona y remoto, respetamos el derecho de cada familia a tomar la decisión que sea mejor para su familia. Como resultado, estamos comprometidos a hacer de la experiencia remota completa la mejor experiencia posible para los estudiantes. Pero como resultado de la selección de ser completamente remoto, necesitaremos que los padres/tutores trabajen con la escuela para que esta sea una experiencia exitosa para todos.
Hemos establecido este viernes 20 de agosto a las 9:00 am como último día y hora para elegir el aprendizaje remoto para el primer trimestre. Si elige el aprendizaje remoto, debe permanecer en el aprendizaje remoto durante todo el primer trimestre. En este momento, la única forma en que la escuela hará un cambio después del viernes por la mañana a las 9:00 a. m. será si el estudiante tiene un diagnóstico médico documentado que requiere que se realice un cambio. Simplemente no podemos ofrecer un programa de calidad para nadie con estudiantes que van y vienen del aprendizaje remoto a la asistencia en persona.
Recogida de equipo
Si no lo ha hecho, los padres/tutores de los estudiantes en control remoto completo en los grados K-12 deben recoger la tecnología proporcionada por la escuela y otros recursos educativos que necesitará el viernes, 21 de agosto en algún momento entre las 12 - 4pm frente la escuela Arcola High School. Expectativas
El aprendizaje remoto este otoño no será como el aprendizaje remoto la primavera pasada. Hay responsabilidades adicionales que deben cumplir los estudiantes y las familias. El aprendizaje remoto también se verá diferente para los estudiantes de preescolar, los estudiantes de los grados K-6 y los estudiantes de los grados 7-12.
Los estudiantes que están en aprendizaje remoto tienen las mismas expectativas que los estudiantes que asisten en persona. Todas las reglas y expectativas del manual de la escuela se aplicarán a los estudiantes que están en remoto, incluidas las consecuencias disciplinarias. Los estudiantes de K-12 están obligados a participar al día durante cinco horas reloj y son responsables de la asistencia, las tareas, la finalización de las actividades, etc. Puede recibir un conjunto específico de las expectativas de la escuela, pero aquí están algunos de ellos:

Estudiantes en los grados K-3

Estudiantes en los grados 4 y 5

Estudiantes del sexto grado

Se espera que los estudiantes remotos transmitan en vivo a las clases matutinas a la hora programada regularmente a través de Zoom o Google Meets cada uno. día para recibir instrucción diaria del maestro. La hora de estas sesiones de Zoom o Google Meet será comunicada por el profesor.

Estudiantes en los grados 7-12
Todos los estudiantes en los grados 7-12 utilizarán Google Classroom como la herramienta en línea para acceder a información, enviar tareas, etc.
Se espera que los estudiantes remotos (1) transmitan en vivo a las clases de la mañana en el horario programado regularmente tiempo a través de Zoom o Google Meets o (2) vea el video instructivo de la clase y responda a todas las indicaciones requeridas al final del período de clase para recibir instrucción diaria del maestro. El maestro del aula comunicará en Google Classroom si la instrucción en el aula se entregará a través de una transmisión en vivo o un video publicado. Es responsabilidad del estudiante acceder a Google Classroom para conocer la expectativa hora a hora. El no hacerlo resultará en una ausencia injustificada. Por ejemplo, si un estudiante tiene la primera hora de inglés, primero verificará si la clase se transmite en vivo o se entrega a través de video. Si se transmite en vivo, se les pedirá que asistan a una sesión de Zoom o Google Meet en vivo de 8:00 am a 9:00 am. Si una lección en video es publicada, se espera que el estudiante vea el video y responda a todas las indicaciones requeridas antes de las 9:00 am.
Recibirá más detalles sobre cómo acceder a Zoom y/o Google Meets. Los estudiantes deben consultar el correo electrónico de su escuela para obtener información de sus maestros.
El 8 de septiembre, TODOS los estudiantes en los grados 7-12 deberán asistir a dos lecciones adicionales en el aula por la tarde. Las lecciones serán de 1:00 a 1:40 pm y de 1:50 a 2:30 pm de lunes a jueves cada semana. Estudiante que recibe servicios especiales (educación especial, respuesta a la intervención, inglés idioma)
Los estudiantes que asisten a la escuela de forma remota que reciben servicios de educación especial (IEP), servicios de respuesta a intervención (RTI) y servicios de idioma inglés TENDRÁN algo de instrucción remota directa requerida durante el día. Se contactará a las familias para coordinar el tiempo y el acceso.
Desayuno y almuerzo
El distrito proporcionará una opción para que las familias tomen y/o entreguen el desayuno y el almuerzo todos los días a las 12:30 pm. Si el estudiante califica para almuerzos gratis, las comidas se proporcionarán gratis. A los estudiantes con tarifa reducida o con paga completa se les cobrará la cantidad correspondiente. Enviaré una comunicación de seguimiento sobre el desayuno y el almuerzo, pero quería que supiera que esa opción estaría disponible.
