Thursday morning, as we closed out the first quarter of the academic calendar, Arcola Jr/Sr High School students and faculty celebrated with a Day of Service.
Small groups fanned out all over town to help community groups and the City of Arcola.
Students picked up litter, weeded, painted, created cards for nursing home residents, snacks for local farmers, and anything else we knew needed done!
The community of Arcola gives so much to our schools and students, we wanted to give back!
What were students up to?
Students helped Ime Climaco weed around the Catholic Church and weeded and pruned the Rosemary Garden.

FFA and Ag class members created Harvest Snack Bags for local farmers.

National Art Honor Society helped paint at the historic Arcola Depot.

Students who went to Carriage Crossing did everything from weeding, cleaning windows, blowing up balloons... whatever they could help with!

Art students also painted dugouts at the Moore Park softball field.

Mr. Lindsey took a group to help at the Arcola Food Pantry.

One group cleaned up the streets and sidewalks along the path students often walk at lunch and after school.

And Mrs. Coombe's group was organizing and getting ready for next week's community and school collaboration to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Night (Tuesday 6-8pm),

Some students created cards for nursing homes and for our own Mr. Boyd as he is going through medical treatments, and then helped around the school.

And at the Arcola Public Library, students helped by weeding and helping beautify around the side entrance.

But, that's not all!
Students also helped with community service at:
City Hall
Methodist Church
Old City Park
Moore Memorial Park
on the school campus
along Jefferson Street
