EIU

On Wednesday, October 28, students in Mrs. Coombe’s Spanish classes had the opportunity to attend a Cultural Field Trip to Eastern Illinois University (EIU) alongside students from Villa Grove High School!

Throughout the day, students participated in immersive learning experiences that brought language and culture to life. They explored a variety of topics through interactive sessions, including “¡Salsa! An International, Latino Beat,” where they learned about Latin music and dance, and “La Tour Eiffel: The Mystery, Magic & Story Behind the Tower,” where they put their creativity and teamwork to the test in a competition to see who could build the best Eiffel Tower!

aaaaStudents also had the opportunity to explore languages beyond Spanish, including French and German, through engaging language and cultural activities. Other sessions introduced students to different Latin American cultures, the world of study abroad, Argentine mate, and even the wildlife and wonders of the Amazon!

aaaaaIn addition to participating in these interactive sessions, students enjoyed a campus tour and learned about the opportunities that studying Spanish can offer them after high school.

This experience allowed students to step outside the traditional classroom, connect language learning to real-world experiences, and gain a greater appreciation for the diverse cultures and languages around them. Learning a language is about more than vocabulary and grammar. It’s about connecting with people, exploring new perspectives, and discovering the world around us!

A big thank you to Eastern Illinois University and everyone who made this enriching experience possible!
