“We Are All in this Together”

Dear Students and Families:

It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to the 2020-2021 school year!  The faculty and staff at Arcola Jr./Sr. High School have been diligently preparing for the return of our students and we are looking forward to another year of excellence.  While we know this school year will be different than previous years, we will not let this damper our dedication to providing a quality education to our students!

At Arcola Jr./Sr. High School “We Are ALL in this Together” to make this school year a great one. Our teachers have been working around the clock to prepare quality lessons for both our remote learners and students who choose to attend in person.  Our custodial crew has also been hard at work meticulously cleaning and disinfecting our building and our staff has been fine tuning all of the procedures and safety guidelines students will follow throughout the day.  Most importantly, we are looking forward to the partnership with parents and students throughout the school year to ensure the safety and health of both students and staff.

Students will begin the school year on Thursday, August 20 and follow the B-Day schedule which includes periods 5th/6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. Students can access their schedules through TeacherEase. The schedule for Friday, August 21 will follow the A-Day schedule which includes periods 1-4.  Please click here for a copy of the daily schedule and the A/B Day calendar:  Daily Schedule/A-B Calendar

On the first day of student attendance, sending your child to school will be verification that the COVID symptom screening has been performed at home.  Information sheets and symptom screening stickers will be sent home with students on Thursday.  Junior High and High School students may enter the building through the south entrance next to the high school office or the cafeteria (only for students eating breakfast). Staff will be supervising all areas and hallways and will be available to ensure that students are wearing masks and social distancing at all times. Teachers will be reviewing all of the new procedures and policies for the school year on Thursday and Friday.  We will spend time each day for the first several weeks practicing all of the procedures in order to keep everyone safe.  Please refer to the District Reopening Plan for more details about all policies and procedures.

Students who have chosen the remote learning option can pick up iPads on Tuesday, August 18 from 11-1 or 3-6 in front of the high school.  Other information for remote learners can be found by clicking here: Remote Learning Plan.  Students attending in person will receive their iPads during the 5th/6th period on Thursday morning.

This school year will certainly be a new journey for all of us, but please know that I am committed to keeping all stakeholders healthy and safe while we navigate through these uncharted waters together.  Please remember that “We Are All in this Together!”

As always, please continue to be safe and practice social distancing!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sigrist
