Arcola welcomes Emily Henderson as the new 5-12 Band and HS Choir teacher. Emily is a recent graduate of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. She grew up in Herscher, Illinois where she was very active in both band and chorus. Emily indicated that she loves the small town feel of Arcola and could immediately see the community support for the fine arts programs here in Arcola. We welcome Emily to the land of the Purple Riders!

A few weeks ago, the Arcola School District announced that the school board was considering the construction of a new front entrance area for the elementary school and the remodeling of the hallways in the elementary and cafeteria area. Since that time, a district committee comprised of administrators, teachers, support staff professionals and building staff have conducted several meetings to discuss what exactly would be needed in the project if it were to move forward. The main message from all parties on the committee was: “We need new bathrooms!” For more information and to view a drawing of the proposed construction, click on http://www.arcola.k12.il.us/facility-planning

Late yesterday , a bus with first grade students from Arcola Elementary School was coming back from a field trip on Route 133 west of Arcola, when the bus was struck by a vehicle head on. Around forty students and ten adults were on the bus when the accident occurred. Several students and adults that were on the bus have been treated by medical professionals and everyone seems to be doing well. Reported injuries include scratches, bruises, scrapes, muscle soreness and a broken bone. The school will have counselors available at school today to support the students and any family members in coping with the incident. The bus driver, from Gould Bus Service, reacted quickly to the car and her actions prevented more serious injuries from occurring. In addition, school personnel and emergency response professionals were quick to scene and implemented emergency response protocols in an attempt to provide order to a chaotic situation.
