Mr. Reel and the following students took a trip to the state capitol today: Ben Crane, Ilusha Budd, Jacob Butler , and Garrett Sigrist. Their classroom for the day was the capitol! The Youth Advisory Council gives the students a unique , hands-on experience in state government. They were given the opportunity to conduct a mock hearing on the recent passage of a bill. Our students were able to meet Senator Chapin Rose and Governor Bruce Rauner.

Our American Voice is a group of students at Arcola Junior High that learns about civics and government, but most importantly, the students work hard to take an active part in making our community a better place. Each year, Arcola OAV creates an action project to give back to their school and community. This year, the students have decided to host a “senior” prom for the senior citizens in Arcola. The intended goal of the project is to encourage and develop friendships between Arcola students and senior citizens. This event will also kick of a summer of OAV involvement at Carriage Crossing, as the OAV members plan to visit the facility weekly to play games, participate in other activities, or just spend time talking with Carriage Crossing residents. This "senior" prom event will be held at Carriage Crossing on Saturday, April 28 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m and will be open to the public as well. Community members are invited to attend to enjoy a fun time of music, refreshments, and good company of both seniors and students. The prom's theme is "Past Meets Present."

Dear Arcola School Community, there was a rumor going around tonight about a potential school shooting tomorrow at school. The district has been working with the Arcola Police Department investigating the situation. There is no creditable information that has led to any concern about student safety tomorrow. Again, there is NO Creditable Threat. But as a precaution we will have a police presence at school tomorrow.
